Hey, I’m Michael Culp, and today, I’m going to show you 7 ways to increase your conversion rate!
Conversion rate optimization (CRO) is a great way to increase sales without increasing traffic.
It can be very tempting when starting a business to focus purely on traffic. But the truth is that increasing traffic can take time if you’re doing it organically, or money if you’re doing paid ads.
So, conversion rate optimization can give you results fast and without spending loads of money to advertise. It’s a great way to leverage the traffic you currently have.
CRO is so powerful that 74% of conversion rate optimization plans result in higher sales.
Now that you know the importance of it, and the impact it can have on your business, let’s dive into the 7 strategies!
1 – Set up your goals
The conversion rate is the percentage of visitors who complete the desired action. This includes completing a web form, signing up for a service, opt-in to your email list, or purchasing a product.
When it comes to increasing your conversion rate, the first step is to define what are your goals. You can focus on improving any desired action the visitor takes on your site. Here are some actions that are commonly tracked:
⦁ Email opt-ins
⦁ Purchases
⦁ Click on links
⦁ Page visits
⦁ Interactions per visit
⦁ Cost per conversion
2 – Branding
It takes about 0.05 seconds for users to form an opinion about your website. This can be the difference between them staying at your website, or going back to look for another solution to their problems.
So, take a quick look at your website, does it pass this 0.05 test?
Your branding is the first thing that users will perceive, and it will be the difference between them staying or leaving. The key is to keep your design smooth and simple.
Your branding needs to be consistent all over your website. Two very important things when it comes to your branding design come down to your fonts and your brand colors.
To choose your fonts you need to choose one for your titles, and the other for the text. Go to https://www.fontpair.co/ to make sure that you choose two fonts that match each other. It’s also important to choose fonts that are easy to read.
When it comes to your brand colors, go to https://coolors.co/ to choose a pallet of colors. This will also make sure that you choose colors that are compatible with each other.
The last important factor is to make sure that your site has a good speed and that your design looks good both on desktop and mobile.
3 – Smooth Navigation
Your navigation should be smooth and easy. You need to present the user with a clear path covering your whole funnel.
When someone comes to your website, they should be able to understand how they can get to where they want to go. If that’s difficult, you’re going to lose them. Your navigation bar should provide an easy way for your customer to find what they are looking for on your website.
You also should think about what actions you want them to take, and design your website and your process in a way that directs your customers to your desired actions.
After they land on your homepage, where do you want them to go? After they finish consuming some content of yours, what are the next steps? Buying a product? Opt-in to your email lists? You need to think about your whole funnel process.
4 – Build Trust
People aren’t going to convert if they don’t trust you. So, make sure to have trust badges, highlight some of your awards and places you were featured in, how many years you’ve been in business, and showcase your customers’ reviews.
I’d argue that customers’ reviews are the most important factor for increasing trust. Looking for reviews is a very crucial part of the buying process. Instead of allowing users to go off your website to find reviews, it’s important to show these reviews on your own website.
You can even set up a platform that allows customers to write authentic reviews. This will highlight the product quality and establish even more trust.
One of the secrets of Amazon’s growth over the years is product reviews. Amazon made customer reviews the center of the customer journey, which allowed them to grow as the biggest online retailer in the world.
5 – Capture Email Leads
It’s very important to capture the email addresses of people who haven’t bought from you yet.
To incentivize people to opt-in for your email list you can offer discount codes, a step-by-step guide, a checklist, and a cheat sheet. The options are many, just keep in mind that you need to offer something that will add value to their lives, otherwise they will not find the offer interesting.
If you get someone’s email address, you can continue to market to them. You don’t need to pay to advertise to that person anymore.
Email marketing allows you to send uninterrupted marketing messages to your potential customers. What I love about email marketing is that now that you have their email, you can follow up with them forever. Now that you have a subscriber, the name of the game is turning them into a customer, and after having a customer, keeping them a customer.
There are a lot of ways to implement this. You can have a pop-up when they get to the middle of the page, an exit intent pop-up, or a call to action at the end of the page.

6 – Multichannel Retargeting
Most of your traffic isn’t going to convert in the first contact they have with you. When people start the process of finding a solution, they are not going to convert right away. They need to do some research first.
You wouldn’t ask someone to marry you on the first date, right? Your relationship with your customers goes the same way.
Retargeting allows your customers to keep seeing you and you stay on the top of their minds. This is a great way for when they’re ready to convert, you’re the option they will remember and come back to.
7 – Perform A/B split testing
A/B testing is an effective way marketers use to compare two versions of a page, such as version A or version B.
This test will allow you to take a data-driven approach. You need to conduct tests, instead of relying on your intuition.
There are a lot of different ways of doing this, but the key thing is to change only one element from one page to the other. If you change more than one element, you’ll not know which element was responsible for causing the change.
So, make one change first and when you determine the better version with this one element, you can test out other elements in the next tests.
To give you some ideas, elements that you can test include headlines, the call to action button color, the call to action text, the images, the position of the call to action, the options are many.
To perform A/B split testing you’re going to need software that allows you to do it. There are great options in the market such as GoHighLevel, Clickfunnels, Groovefunnels, Builderall, and Unbounce. You have many options to choose from.
